BEER  the  Inspiration  of  Man

beer.png

Human beings have been around for about 100,000 years, but for the first 90,000 years we achieved absolutely nothing. All accomplishments have were made in the last ten thousand years.  So, what exactly happened that put an end to primitive survival and put us on the road to creativity and invention?

The answer is beer! Beer happened, and it changed the world forever.

The project will be educational, entertaining funny in place but always factual, with the target audience covering the full range: from the 18–30-year old’s, the beginners, experimenters, and free-spirited tasters. The 30-55 years, the family drinkers still exploring, but have established tastes, to the 55 and over, the seasoned drinkers who know what they like.

All the weird myths and stories leading up to today’s love of beer and how it changed and influenced society, the makers and movers of beer around the globe, the most popular beer, the country that drinks the most per capita, the strongest-beer manufactured, the new micro-breweries, to the rise of beer tourism, to the world’s oldest historical pubs and the new ones.

Weird and wonderful stories like the great London beer Tsunami in 1814 that killed 8 people, how in the Middle Ages to test the alcohol content of the beer for taxes the tester did not drink it but sat in the beer.

The story of beer is timeless, endless and ongoing … so many beers, so much to know and so little time.

SUNSHINE STORIES
womanreading.jpg

To produce a simply-presented lone person reading a book to camera, one show aimed at children the other at adults.  Both supported by Swagman Publishing and other major sponsors.

Aimed initially at children. The presentation will be mainly the reader, with occasional overlays of pictures, drawings and simple re-enactments to illustrate the text.

It is envisaged that the same format can be developed for young adult and mature book enthusiasts.

The program will be half-hour in length with one book or a collection of short stories being read. In cases where the book will extend beyond this time frame: a serial of readings will be produced.

Presenters will vary from program to program and involve an eclectic array of people, race and personalities; ranging from grandparents, to young parents, to teenagers and young children. Where possible the actual author, a sporting hero or ethnic community leader will be encouraged to participate.

The books will initially be from works held by W.C. Productions and Swagman Publishing, with more being acquired on licence from other authors and publishers covering a large format of books.  Including negotiations for Dream Time stories and Maori legends.

WORMS, WORMS, WORMS
worms-thumb.jpg

Children's book Presented by a mature male:

‘Harold Percival Thompson loved worms. All his life, the whole seven years of it, he had loved worms. His very first memory was his mum saying "Yuk Harold ...  don't eat that... it’s a dirty Worm". It was such a lovely memory:  the funny look on his mother’s face, all the excitement of Dad and Grandpa grabbing the worm from his hand. Such fun and drama over a little worm; and he wasn't going to eat it any way.

As I said, Harold Percival Thompson loved worms.’

Synopsis:

Harold is so besotted with worms that he obsessively drives all those around him crazy with his constant ravings about his passion. However after many trials and tribulations Harold convinces one and all to embrace the ecological magic of Worms, Worms, Worms.

A BUNDLE OF BOYS
Oldman_reading.jpg

Children's book Presented by a young boy.

‘The front door of the living room burst open with the distinctive voice of Grandpa resounding ahead: “Where are you kids? It’s Grandpa.”

We had all decided that Grandpa couldn’t actually turn door handles, not because he was too old and had forgotten how, but because he saw every door as some strange enemy barring his way. Grandpa confronted every door as challenge.

Grandpa was loud and rude, his pockets filled with little packets of sweets, string, pocket-knives and other precious things. His face crammed with smiles, his mouth overflowing with jokes and his head bubbling-over with puzzles and clever things that no one else ever wanted to share with us.

We all loved Grandpa’s visits, we all hung on every word, his every tease, his every joke, but yet at the end of his visit we were all so exhausted and quite pleased to say “Good night.” And giggle off to bed.

I just said “giggle off to bed”, now people don’t normally “giggle off to bed” do they? This strange way of saying things is all my Grandpa’s fault. I’d best start again.’
